Is there anything to work towards?
Well I decided to try and get back into guild wars again. I was mainly a big pvper, I dont think I ever finished a whole campaign.
I was hoping to maybe try a farming build but it got me thinking. Why farm? All the expensive armor and weapons seem kind of pointless to me, same with mini pets and titles. When I made 100k on the new year just from buying and selling fireworks I could not think of anything to actually spend my money on. I've resorted to buying flames of balthazar to unlock some stuff(way too hard to find). Any ideas? |

I feel you man. Unless you consider having huge stacks of gold or titles an achievement in it's own right, the game doesn't have much to offer as far as gameplay goes. Try HA or GvG, it's quite fun if you manage to get a good guild for it.

Totally agree...
If you dont like gold or Titles, just go into the PvP side of the game... |

Im a former WoW player, and it seems like there was a lot more progression in that game. You would work hard farming or pvping/pveing for better gear. In guild wars, better gear = cooler looking gear. |

I dunno, to me your question translates to this:
Is there anything to do because I don't like anything you can do? Answer is no. Each game has things you can do but they are not all the same. If you don't see the point in prestige then this is the wrong game for you. It sounds like you either need to play a game where gear determines your gameplay (WoW and such) or play insta shooting or PvP only games. So play WoW and overpay or go play an FPS or something I would suggest. Guild Wars is more a game for people who enjoy slightly different things like prestige armour and titles and finishing story lines like traditional RPG style games. If that's not you then I fear there is nothing much for you to do. I have plenty of stuff to do still and have fun doing it so it comes down to personal preference. |

I mean to say that the whole game is a closed circuit. Everything comes to single purpose of slaying monsters. Compare this to earlier Final Fantasies for example. Playing Triple Triad -card game in FFVIII is a world on it's own. Collecting Guardian Forces and draining magic has consequences in how well you fight, but this consequence is not the reason to collect them. There's NPCs with interesting dialogue and stories to tell. Characters with personality. Collectible items like magazines scattered across the world, but you can read them. Guild Wars' trophies you either give to collector to get a weapon or sell for 30 gold to get a weapon. That's it. Compared to what kind of wonderful innovations other non-MMO-RPGs have, this game looks to be made by amateur designers and coders who just happened to have decent graphical engine and understanding community to give them tips how to design good games. 1) What is prestige if it's not prestigious? Every single Dervish is running around with Primeval armor dyed black. Everyone has some max title under their names. 2) Why are you making strawman of WoW's gear-dependance as if this shit is lesser of the two evils? Quote:

Personally, I LOVE these posts.
If you don't enjoy playing an aspect of Guild Wars then don't play. Why ask me (who has been playing since it came out, and still enjoy it.) for a way to amuse yourself? Usually, someone says "go play WoW!" Good advise, if you enjoy that game. I say go do something (and it doesn't have to be a computer game) you do enjoy, if this (Guild Wars) isn't something you enjoy anymore. The only reason I've come up with for these kinds of posts is you want me, and others, to validate that you aren't having fun. |

Trying to add things for people who like the game? Trying to add things for people who dislike the game and don't want to play in the first place? Trying to appeal to everyone results in disaster. Doing one thing, and doing it well gives you satisfied customer. Don't like the game? Find another one. It really is that simple. Some people have just become so spoiled that they expect the world to kneel before their every whim. So GW doesn't have what OP is looking for. Neither does Microsoft Word. Should microsoft start adding PvP to their office suite, since it might increase their sales? Should Boeing start adding off-road capability to their planes since SUVs are so popular? Quote:
Why are you playing GW anyway, apparently nothing is good enough for you except HA or something. Doesn't that make GW a "good" game then? You're playing it. Community, like your view demonstrates, has absolutely no clue at how games are designed, or why certain things matter. Just because you don't like killing mobs over mobs, doesn't mean it's not the main appeal of GW. People love doing that. That's what 80% of GW population loves more than anything. And then there's a special type of players - whiners. They join a community, and do nothing but whine and moan over everything. They buy GW because it has low level cap, then whine it should have more. They like the balanced gameplay, but whine about all items being the same. They like casual style, but want hard-core grind. All companies that gave into the 1% of people who whine on forums killed off the game they were running. Vocal minority is 1% of players. Less than 10% of people post on, or even read forums. So no, this optinion of "how community should design the game" is pure nonsense. |

Play for fun.
Try some of the missions and see if you enjoy them. If not, then don't play and stick to PvP. |

Rest of your post isn't even worth answering. Are you sure you're not the whiner incapable of having a conversation? |

I think you can also split that down further though. You have people who see others enjoying the game, and genuinely wish they could find the same enthusiasm. You then have your typical 'haters' who want everyone else to be negative, as they are themselves. Quote:

Do you also hit yourself with a hammer and then complain that it hurts, and that it shouldn't hurt, since not getting hit with a hammer doesn't? Why do you keep on hitting yourself with a hammer (aka, play GW)? You hate GW, you hate MMORPGs, yet apparently continue to play. Why, in name of sanity and common sense? It isn't healthy to engage into self-destructive behavior. |

If your a PvP player you don't really need to worry about making gold, so i don't understand why you went and made 100k from the new year. I really don't fully understand your post actually. If your a PvPer and like PvP stick with it, there is a lot to do in PvP and there are PvP titles.
